2023 Holiday Things to Do in Northern Ohio

As Halloween comes and goes, we are looking forward to the Christmas and holiday events in store as we move into November and December. The new year will be here before we know it, so let’s enjoy the 2023 winter holiday season while we can! We’ve compiled a list of happenings for you to peruse – make it a special getaway by combining one of these festive events with a stay at Angel Welcome Bed & Breakfast!

November 16, 2023 – December 31, 2023, Lake Erie in Lights will be taking place from 5:30-8:30pm at the Erie County Fairgrounds in Sandusly. This drive-through light display is set to feature over a million lights and supports Ability Works, Supporting Independence, Inclusion, and Employment in six Ohio counties.

Main Street Vermilion’s Christmas Art Show will run November 4, 2023 – December 22, 2023 (Mon-Fri 10 am-4 pm and weekends, 12-4 pm). Original art is an incredible gift idea – a truly unique present for those who are so important to us. Visit 685 Main St. (US 60) Vermilion, OH 44089 to view the show.

Model train lovers will absolutely not want to miss the opening of the “Hayes Train Special” model train display at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums in Fremont. Visitors will have access to interactive buttons that control aspects of the train’s movements. Taking place on November 24, 2023, this free event is part of A Presidential Christmas, a series of holiday events at Hayes Presidential. Another fun event will be the Lights of Spiegel Grove on November 30, 2023 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. Visit Kris Kringle, and the train, and take a tour of the mansion, decorated for Christmas in historically accurate style.

On December 2-3, 2023, find wonderful crafty gifts for your loved ones (or yourself!) at Mulberry Creek Herb Farm’s Christkindlmarkt in Huron. This show will feature multiple vendors, a German food buffet, a plant sale, live music (including a Christmas Choir) and raffles. There is no charge for admission, but please help support “Back to the Wild” by dropping off an item from their wish list. Also in Huron December 2 is the Winter Fest, with Santa and Mrs. Claus, sleigh rides, arts & crafts, and fireworks at 6pm!

A holiday concert – A Peppermint Twist Christmas – is presented by Firelands Symphony Orchestra on December 10 at 4pm at Sawmill Creek Convention Center in Huron. The concert will feature a guest vocalist performing many new and unexpected versions of well-loved holiday music. General Admission is $35 per person, on a first-come, first-serve basis.

For nature aficionados, a winter hike is just the thing to shake the cold-weather torpor! On December 17 at 10am, Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve and State Nature Preserve is open for a Winter Solstice Hike. Enjoy the stillness of the shortest day of the year with a walk along the trail, listening for bird calls and experiencing a quiet winter day. Advance registration is required for this event.

No matter how you choose to spend your November and December, we at Angel Welcome wish you joy and peace in the season!
